How we scored them
The Office Score weighs performance (fit for small home offices: compact size, stated support features), build (materials, base, casters), value for the stated specs, safety and warranty. For chairs, safety means stated certifications such as SGS and BIFMA and stated weight limits; the NEO CHAIR and OLIXIS state these. None of the five states a warranty term. How we pick explains the weights.
| Product | Office Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NEO CHAIR Criss Cross Chair | 9.7 | 30 | 22 | 21 | 8 | 0 |
| ELABEST Mesh Office Chair | 9.6 | 29 | 21 | 21 | 7 | 0 |

| BERYTH Armless Desk Chair | 9.5 | 27 | 20 | 21 | 6 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
How to choose the best small desk chair for home office
Start with the footprint
Small chairs win by fitting where a full-size task chair will not. The armless BERYTH and OLIXIS tuck under a desk, and the NEO CHAIR’s armless wide seat suits cross-legged sitting without armrests getting in the way. The PayLessHere and ELABEST keep armrests for longer sessions. Measure the desk knee space before choosing; an armless chair needs less of it. Pair the chair with the right surface from our computer desks guide.
Check the stated support
The PayLessHere and ELABEST both state adjustable lumbar support, and the ELABEST adds a synchro-tilt mechanism with 3 lockable positions and adjustable tension. The BERYTH states a 90 to 135 degree rocking range with tilt tension control, and the NEO CHAIR states adjustable height and tilt. Lumbar support and tilt locks are the two features that separate a desk chair from a dining chair. See our best computer desk chairs for long hours for more support-focused picks.
Look at the base and the floor
The NEO CHAIR states an SGS-approved gas lift and a BIFMA-certified metal base with non-slip, scratch-resistant pads, and the OLIXIS states a reinforced base that passed BIFMA standards. The NEO CHAIR has no wheels, which suits hard floors and rug-free corners; the rest roll on casters. The BERYTH and NEO CHAIR both state a 300 lb capacity. Check the base against your floor: pads protect hard floors, casters need a mat on carpet.
Setup Notes
- Measure the desk knee space and the chair’s footprint; armless models like the BERYTH and OLIXIS need the least room.
- Check the stated weight capacity: the BERYTH and NEO CHAIR both state 300 lbs.
- The NEO CHAIR has no wheels; the other four roll, so plan a chair mat for carpet.
- Assemble on a soft surface to protect the finish; the BERYTH states walnut-style trim that scratches show on.
- Keep the screen at eye level: all five state adjustable height, so set it once and sit back.
