The best whiteboard for online tutoring stays readable on camera: a smooth surface, high contrast markers, and a size that fits the webcam frame. Students judge a lesson partly by what they can see, so the board is teaching equipment, not decoration. I compared four whiteboards on size, mounting, writing surface, and included extras, using only what each listing states. The picks range from wall-mounted lined boards to rolling double-sided easels.

How we scored
The OKH Score weighs whiteboard performance, build, value, safety features, and warranty. Performance covers size, surface, mounting, and extras; build covers frame and materials; value weighs the feature set. No pick states a safety certification or warranty term, so those columns score zero across the board. How we pick explains the weights.
| Product | Office Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VIZ-PRO Magnetic Whiteboard Easel | 9.6 | 28 | 20 | 20 | n/a | 0 |
| TSJ OFFICE Rolling Whiteboard with Pad | 9.5 | 28 | 19 | 20 | n/a | 0 |
| TSJ OFFICE Rolling Whiteboard | 9.5 | 27 | 19 | 20 | n/a | 0 |
| XBoard Magnetic Whiteboard with Lines | 9.5 | 27 | 19 | 19 | n/a | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score. Safety counts only for powered gear or where the listing states safety features; where it does not apply, the score is taken over the remaining 90 points.
How to choose the best whiteboard for online tutoring
Match the size to the camera frame
Two sizes are on offer. The two TSJ OFFICE boards measure 48 by 32 inches, the largest writing area here, which keeps more work visible in a wide webcam shot without constant erasing. The VIZ-PRO and XBoard measure 36 by 24 inches, with writing surfaces of 34 by 22 and 34.5 by 22.6 inches. A bigger board suits full-lesson teaching with diagrams that stay up; a smaller board suits a desk-side setup where the camera sits close.
Choose the mount for your room
Mounting changes the workflow. The two TSJ boards roll on wheels with height adjustment and double-sided surfaces, so you can flip to a fresh side mid-lesson and wheel the board out of the way after. The VIZ-PRO is a height-adjustable easel with an aluminum frame that folds into a smaller footprint. The XBoard mounts on the wall with the included fixing kits and never needs floor space. Rolling boards suit shared rooms; a wall board suits a dedicated teaching corner.
Check the surface and extras
All four are magnetic dry-erase surfaces. The XBoard adds grid lines and a scratch-resistant surface, useful for math and charts, with an eraser, three markers, four magnets, a pen holder, and fixing kits included. The VIZ-PRO includes a flipchart pad, a marker tray, two hooks, an eraser, two markers, and four magnets, the best starter kit here. The TSJ board with the 25-sheet paper pad adds a tear-off option for students who want a copy. For related gear, see desk organizers and whiteboards.
Plan for glare and contrast
On camera, glare kills readability. Position the board so window light hits it at an angle rather than straight on, and write with the included dry-erase markers in dark colors. Thick strokes read better on video than thin ones, so press firmly. The lined XBoard helps keep rows straight for students watching on small screens.
Keep markers and erasers in reach
Lessons stall when the marker dies mid-sentence. The VIZ-PRO and the TSJ boards include marker trays, and the XBoard includes a pen holder, so park spares there. Dry-erase markers dry out fast with the caps off, so recap between sections. Erase with the included eraser rather than a paper towel to protect the coating.
Setup notes
Mount the XBoard with the included fixing kits on a stud or solid wall, at a height where the top of the board stays in frame. Assemble the rolling boards and lock the wheels before writing so the board does not drift mid-lesson. Condition a new board by writing over the full surface and erasing it once before the first lesson; this keeps ghosting down.
